In November, 100 people from across the UK will come together to hear evidence, deliberate, and decide together on how AI should be governed. We need to make sure their voice cannot be ignored.
Most of the funding for the first-ever national UK Citizens' Assembly on AI governance is now secured, thanks largely to generous grants. But the House of the People is about people power, and we want our funding to reflect that too. So we're asking for your help.
It's crucial that people from all walks of life can take part, not just those who can afford the time, travel or practical costs involved. That means funding the ordinary things that otherwise become barriers to participation: childcare, accessible travel, accommodation, meals, and payment for participants' time, alongside the expert evidence and materials that makes meaningful deliberation possible.
We pay members of the Assembly for their time. No MP salaries here - just enough that a carer, a nurse or a teacher isn't choosing between this and a week's wages. It's what makes it possible to hear from 100 members who truly represent the country.
Between elections, most people have no real say in the biggest decisions that affect their lives. Ordinary people are locked out of participating in politics – we think Citizens' Assemblies are how it gets fixed.
The House of the People is built to make that a fundamental part of an upgraded politics. And regular donations are what makes that possible. Even £5 month builds towards a permanent new home for citizen-led democracy.
